East Timor-20.jpg

IDP's (Internally Displaced People) hiding in the village of Galiana.

There were approximately 800 displaced people here who have fled their villages after being intimidated by pro-Indonesian militias, with approximately another 4,000 in the surrounding area.

They were all suffering from hunger and relied on the villagers of Galiana to give them food. Many were suffering from various illnesses including malaria and TB.

On the day this picture were taken, which was Easter Monday 1999, 3 IDP's had been killed by the para-military approximately 3 kms. from the village.
