The Karen-021.jpg

Children in school in the Mae La camp refugee camp, Thailand.

The Karen take their education very seriously and consider it a 'wise weapon' against the oppression of Burma's military leaders.

It has been reported that the SPDC has strictly forbidden the teaching of any of the ethnic minority languages; as a result, many children grow up illiterate in their mother tongue.

Thai/Burma border 2004.
