Maryinka, eastern Ukraine, Nov. 2017.
Vera Grigorievna, 63.
Inspecting what was the living area of her property, the other part is a hairdressing salon from where she used to run a successful business.
In Aug. 2014 a grad rocket hit the house. Fortunately, her son had got her out when the area started to be attacked by pro-Russian separatists’ and her home being hit.
Just prior to the war starting she had borrowed money from the bank and did extensive renovation work to the property but she is now left with no-where permanent to live and remains in debt to the bank.
She must keep a vigilant eye on her home as several valuable items have been looted since the shelling.
A long-time resident of Maryinka she loves her city and is desperate to have the ‘good life’ back that she once had.
