The Karen-015.jpg

Saw Gladdy, inventor and engineer, in the Mae La refugee camp, Thailand.

He has designed and plans to build a hydro-electric turbine to run from a waterfall deep in the Burmese jungle. This will provide electricity to a clinic that treats land-mine victims.

After being forced out of their home by the Burmese military when he was two years old, he and his mother survived in the jungle for a year, until they eventually found their way to a KNU (Karen National Union) camp where he was educated by his father.
