Since 2014 Ukraine has defended its borders against aggression from pro-Russian separatists in the Donbas region of eastern Ukraine.
The resulting conflict has affected over 4.4 million people.
The contact line is 457 kms long, the same distance as London to Paris.
Approximately 25,000 have been injured and over 10,000 killed, with almost 3,000 of the dead being civilians.
Thousands more have had their homes and lives destroyed.
